- Join LinkedIn and keep your profile up-to-date. Join relevant LinkedIn groups and request to connect to professionals in the field you are interested in.
- Do an online search for any commutable Tech career fairs being held over the next few months which will give you an idea of what recruiters are looking for and the opportunity to network.
- Join online User Groups (such as Microsoft PowerUsers, Power BI User group, Microsoft Dynamics 365) and Reddit communities (such as r/PowerBI, r/PowerPlatform and r/Dynamics365) in the field you are interested in and attend group ‘meet ups’ to network with professionals.
- Some ‘CV/resume writing’ companies do a free AI (Artificial Intelligence) check on your CV as many organisations use this to scan and whittle down resumes.
- See what certficates and qualifications are sought for in job adverts and make a plan to upskill.
- See what courses are available in your area. Some tech training agencies assist you in finding you a job after the course. There may be government sponsored free courses or apprenticeship schemes in a skill shortage area of Tech.
- Create an online portfolio to showcase your work, perhaps on your own website (easy to create on WordPress), GitHub or even post it on LinkedIn. Include a link your portfolio on your LinkedIn profile and resume.
- Ask family, friends and former colleagues to enquire about openings in their company’s (or even your own current/ former company’s) tech department.
- Consider volunteering your services for a not-for-profit organisations to build up your portfolio and gain experience.
